A £66 million Lotto jackpot, then a record, is shared by two tickets
Saturday 9 January 2016 · Lotto
After 14 rollovers, the Lotto draw on Saturday 9 January 2016 had a record jackpot of just over £66 million. Two tickets matched 26, 27, 46, 47, 52 and 58, and each was worth £33,035,323.
One belonged to David and Carol Martin, both 54, from Hawick in the Scottish Borders, who had bought three Lucky Dip lines at Morrisons in the town. The ticket sat on their mantelpiece until a friend called round the next morning and mentioned there had been two winners. David worked for Borders Care and Repair and Carol at a local chemist. When they were named on 13 January they spoke of helping friends, family, charities and neighbours hit by flooding.
The other ticket had been bought in Worcester, and for almost three weeks no one came forward with it. Hundreds of people said they had lost or damaged the winning ticket, among them a grandmother who said hers had gone through the wash. She was later reported not to be the winner.
On 28 January 2016 Camelot said it had received a valid claim for the Worcester ticket. The winner chose to stay anonymous.
