The £63.8m EuroMillions ticket from Hertfordshire that nobody claimed

Friday 8 June 2012 · EuroMillions

The EuroMillions draw on Friday 8 June 2012 produced a winning ticket worth £63,837,543.60. It had been bought in the Stevenage and Hitchin area of Hertfordshire.

The National Lottery spent months trying to find the holder. Shops in the area put up posters, and the search was pushed on social media and in the papers. A town crier even toured the area in a Lamborghini. Nobody came forward with the ticket.

The deadline passed at 11pm on Wednesday 5 December 2012. The prize, together with the interest it had built up, then went to National Lottery good causes. At the time it was described as the biggest unclaimed lottery prize ever.

Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw, so it is worth checking old tickets.
