Fifteen Cleland Hospital nurses share £1m Millionaire Maker prize

Friday 20 April 2018 · EuroMillions

Fifteen nurses from Cleland Hospital in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, matched one of the two UK Millionaire Maker codes in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 20 April 2018. The group, who call themselves The Winning Nurses, split £1 million, a little over £66,666 each.

They had played together for three years at 50p each per draw, and had never won more than £12 before. The ticket came from the Co-op on Station Road in Shotts.

June Fraser, 58, looks after the syndicate's tickets. She used the National Lottery app on the Saturday morning. The first ticket had won nothing, and she nearly left the second unchecked because she thought it belonged to a future draw. She still went in to work that afternoon, with the ticket pinned inside her uniform.

Members talked of trips to Canada and Sri Lanka, cruises, new cars and a motorbike. Before any of that, the group bought cakes and treats for staff, patients and families at the hospital.
